Cold Symptoms in Kids

There are many cold symptoms in kids and we will discuss some of the things you can look for when diagnosing an outbreak of colds in your child. The more readily available medicine that we have to help with our children's colds is amazing but there are certain things you should watch out for as well. With some simple early symptoms of colds, you can identify an illness before it develops into something serious.
  • Cold symptoms in kids are often associated with the common cold.

  • Fever is often a factor and many kids have a very high fever during a cold snap.

  • This is because the virus is fighting off infections that have taken hold in the body.

  • The common cold is a lot like the flu and children sometimes seem to get more severely allergic reactions to the common cold than adults.

  • The most obvious cold symptoms in kids is a runny nose and sneezing, which are the first indicators of a developing cold.

Other Basic Symptoms in Kids:

  • Another symptom of colds in kids is a general irritability that stems from the cold. When a cold last longer than a couple of days, it is called a chronic cold.

  • If the cold is more than a couple of days, it is referred to as a seasonal cold.

  • Colds of any kind cause a lot of stress in kids so being sure that they are treated and not neglected during this time is very important.

  • If a cold last longer than two or three days, you should get your child to the doctor for a proper diagnosis.

  • Make sure the doctor knows what type of cold he is talking about.

  • You don't want to diagnose your kid with something that could have easily been prevented.

  • Colds in young children can be difficult to treat as the immune system is not fully developed yet.

  • Also, some children are more sensitive to the cold and can even contract pneumonia from the colds and irritability.

Some cold symptoms in kids are more annoying than others. Some children might just become cranky and won't stop crying until you give them a toy to keep them busy with. This also causes more stress in the family.

  • Other cold symptoms are having the hands and feet turn cold and not responding to heat.

  • Some kids will have both cold symptoms in kids and fever.

  • If this happens, the cold symptoms will usually clear up within a few days while the fever will stay around high levels for a week or two.

Conclusion

If your child has either cold symptoms in kids or fever, it is important to visit a doctor right away. You don't want to let this type of situation get worse. Get your child to the doctor as soon as possible so they can get proper treatment.
